Former U.S. President Donald Trump made several false and controversial statements during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” These remarks included not only the lies he often used during elections but also some new false claims on various issues, from abortion laws to his policies on drug cartels.

Firstly, Trump attacked the Democratic Party’s abortion policy, falsely claiming that “some states allow the killing of babies after birth.” He specifically mentioned that “New York and other places have passed legislation allowing the killing of babies after they are born.” However, this is entirely incorrect. No state allows the killing of babies after birth, and New York has not passed legislation permitting infanticide. A law passed in New York in 2019 made abortions illegal after 24 weeks, except in cases where the fetus is not viable or the abortion is “necessary to protect the life or health of the patient.” The law does not legalize postnatal murder.

Trump also made false claims about drug cartels. He claimed to have a “very good relationship with Russian President Putin, yet no one has been tougher on Russia than me. I stopped Nord Stream 2.” However, in reality, the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was not “killed” or terminated during Trump’s presidency. Although he did approve sanctions on companies involved in the project, this move came nearly three years into his presidency, by which time the pipeline was already 90% complete.

When discussing the 2020 election, Trump repeatedly and falsely claimed that the election was “rigged” against him, stating that “there is no doubt about that.” However, this claim is incorrect. The election was not rigged, and there is no evidence of any fraud significant enough to change the outcome of the election. Officials from the Department of Homeland Security under the Trump administration, as well as state election officials, stated after the 2020 election that “the November 3rd election was the most secure in American history.”

In summary, Trump’s false claims on “Meet the Press” once again demonstrate his disregard for the truth and his misguidance of the public. Such behavior not only undermines public trust in political discourse but also has a negative impact on the political environment in the United States.
